Medicare
Supplemental Health Insurance
Medicare Supplemental Insurance plans are standardized by the government and are available within 10 plans:
A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N
Former Plans Now Eliminated E, H, I, AND J.
The most comprehensive plans are Plan C and Plan F.
Both of these plans have no out of pocket expenses ... i.e. one never has to pay a dime. They are not very affordable.
Plan F does have 3 optional Senior Smart Choice Plans.
Senior Smart Choice plans are detailed below
and do include some out-of-pocket costs, but overall allow Plan F to be much more financially feasible.
Prescription Drugs are covered under Plan
D
Basic benefits are included in all 12 plans
- Inpatient Hospital Care:
Covers the Part A coinsurance and the cost of 365
extra days of hospital care
after Medicare ends.
- Medical Costs: Covers the Part B coinsurance (generally 20%of the
Medicare-approved payment amount).
- Blood: Covers the first 3 pints of blood each year.
The Senior Smart Choice Plans (MAKE PLAN F MORE AFFORDABLE)
1. Smart Choice - Plan F with a deductible of $1790.
2. Smart Choice Preferred
- Offers a $5 office visit co-pay, vision benefits
and chiropractic.
3. Smart Choice Plus -
Offers a LTC rider with daily benefit of $100/day.
Plan D is a prescription benefit which pays for
drugs. There are many companies that offer Part D and the company one chooses is dependent on their medication as prescribed by their doctor.
